How honest can I be to a therapist/psychiatrist? Because I DO have those kind of thoughts but I don’t act. I really don’t want to get sent to a mental hospital or other program though

If u are shown to be a harm to yourself or others it is a cause for concern. But I believe the psychologists gauges this. You say you don’t act on it, but I didn’t hear that yo u wouldn’t. I know the hospital is scary, but sometimes getting help can be scary. You can always talk to hotlines if you’re worried but just talk to someone pls🤍

And I really hate lying but I really don’t want to go to a hospital I’m afraid it’ll just make my anxiety even worse

The psychologist can also help you work on these things, I would research about this because I don’t think they would just send you straight to the hospital.

Involuntary confinement is very VERY rare. You would have to be very close to doing something VERY bad for that to happen.

In order to get involuntarily committed you must be an “imminent and immediate threat to yourself or someone else”. They cannot commit you for just having thoughts.

as someone who is deathly afraid of hospitals i just went to a therapist, had no intention of harming myself, and they sent me to a mental hospital against my will and it was terrifying.. so if i were you and you know for an absolute fact that you would never hurt yourself you shouldn’t tell them about those specific thoughts because they will most likely send you (at least in my case they did)

This is my fear exactly. I already got flyers for a voluntary partial hospitalization program to help with mild agoraphobia & I don’t want to do that let alone be forced into hospitalization because of just thoughts

i really hope you won’t have to go through what i did ❤️ being forced into a mental hospital by the therapist triggered agoraphobia for me but i am doing a lot better. i just bawl my eyes out anytime i think of when i was in that awful place. it was scary being surrounded by strangers and being watched all the time
