I hate when people say your anxiety can’t be that bad. I can’t even use the oven by myself cause I feel like it will explode. I can’t drive a car cause of crashes. I can barely drink water cause I saw a kid died from drinking too much one time. it’s bad.

water intoxication shouldn’t happen if you listen to your body: drink when you’re thirsty, stop when you’re not. your body is smarter than you think it is! usually water intoxication happens to ppl who drink A LOT bc of hazing or dares (pushing past their limits) or endurance athletes after intense workouts who drink too much. your kidneys can process about 33oz (1 liter) of water in an hour, so don’t drink more than that (you probably won’t feel thirsty enough to drink more anyway)

my water bottle is 24oz and i know im safe to drink at least that amount in an hour, but it takes me several hours to get through all that water because my body doesn’t thirst for it. even when i run, im not thirsty enough to drink my whole bottle (i only crave maybe 12oz max during a workout?? i don’t keep track). i try not to track the numbers too much (bc that makes anxiety worse) but it helps to know that as long as i don’t drink more than what’s in my water bottle in an hour i’ll be fine

the longer you wait to tackle your anxieties, the worse they get, and the more insurmountable they will feel (im also working on my fear of driving). start small, like having one sip of water per meal, or one sip of water per day. you can also get a water bottle with measurements on the side to see how much you’re drinking. i know it’s really scary, but you need to believe that your anxiety is lying to you and that your body can handle water. good luck!

This actually helps so much, thank you! A lot of the anxiety was not knowing how much you had to drink, and I always just thought it was any amount of water too fast. My water bottle is around 16oz, and I always just took small sips even if I wanted more. Knowing this will help a lot with that. Thank you so much! I’ll try to start taking baby steps with the other fears I have as well. you are amazing

wait actually I have one question (if you don’t know that’s totally fine, i’m just curious). does that measurement only include water? If I drank that amount of water and also had a couple drinks of alcohol would I need to worry or is it okay if it’s something else? or like soup

you have to drink an ABSOLUTELY INSANE amount of water for it to kill you. like chugging constantly, being extremely full to the point of pain, ignoring all of the bodily signs telling you to stop. you will be TOTALLY FINE with drinking even a lot of water plus alcohol plus soup.

unsure it this helps but it helped me with health anxiety: you’re doing a lot more harm to yourself driving too little water, than you would be drinking too much (since realistically you wouldn’t get to a dangerous point of too much anyway)
