Yugioh. Nostalgic af and some cool parts still, but the plot and the pacing is not great and the characters can be pretty dumb. I don’t rly recommend for ppl who didn’t grow up with it

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 😭 there’s a lot about it that I still love but the teacher-student harem / schoolgirl fetishism shit creeps me out now and all the punchlines about Maria were sooooo racist

Ouran HS Host Club. There is a lot of weird shit in it, in hindsight. Incest Transphobia Homophobia Didn’t really notice that when I was 11…

Also Sonic X. Jfc that show is trash. I’m sorry to any Sonic fans in here but I was a fanatic back in the day and watching that as an adult is just 😓

oh, and speaking of racist & xenophobic “immigrant character” tropes, Excel Saga is lowkey unwatchable in retrospect cause of the entire Pedro storyline

really quite depressing how US-type racism is so influential as a cultural export that even in Japan they sometimes use demeaning Mexican stereotypes for “immigrant character” gags

even if it’s supposed to be played as self-aware humor or w/e, the way it’s executed just amounts to 2000s “ironic racism”. like demonstrating how totally not-racist they are by ?? continuing to perpetuate offensive cliches, just with a wink and a nudge

Oh dear, Sonic X. I watched the same episodes on repeat so damn much. I wouldn’t be surprised how badly it aged.

ngl this one came up for me too and I got too embarrassed to admit I ever liked it 💀 just an all-timer of an animated atrocity
