You can tell the newer American anime fans don’t know the age of consent in Japan because they’re always complaining about the high school girls outfits. The age of consent used to be 13 it’s 16 now the target audience of most Shonen anime are young boys

Yes it completely does. If you grew up like all those mangaka knowing that socially those age girls can give consent you’d look at it like how Japan does. America where the age of consent is 18 and a lot of the newer anime fans who don’t know anything about Japan look at it the way they do because that’s all they’re used to and think why are the girls dressed or look at certain way

that doesn’t make it ok still. that’s where we’re getting at. just because there’s a reason doesn’t make it ok.

It literally does by definition of growing up with different social norms. I’m half white half Japanese and I stand out like crazy in Japan and Korea because I look clearly mixed white. In America it’s no big deal because you guys are used to different races mixing. If you see a white girl and black guy here most people won’t think anything. In Japan and Korea a lot of families would disown you for dating out of the race especially if the other person was black. To you guys that’s crazy over

lots of people apart from anime know japan isn’t a great place. extremely xenophobic, very fucking racist, they murdered over 300k chinese over 60 years ago, extreme consent laws, 50% of girls before age 14 are assaulted or sexually harassed, the work life balance is there horrible, hence why suicide forest is a thing. i knew all of this before i started watching anime…i think it’s kinda common knowledge.

There it’s pretty normalized. Whiteness is the standard. Skin whitening creams and lotions double eyelid surges are pretty normal. Over here they’d be looked at like what are you doing love yourself. Because you guys grew up that way. Just like they grew up knowing oh the age of consent is 13 and now 16 ok well a lot of Shonen characters are high school aged anyways before time skips no big deal but now that anime is popular in America it has become more of an issue

hence why japan deserves to be called out. its glamorized way too much. its actually disgusting how japanese treat foreigners. that’s why so many people aren’t going there anymore and have no desire to travel.

And at the end of the day it’s a business and sex will always sell. Shonen anime is geared toward young boys. It’s Japanese culture that newer American fans are uncomfortable with but no one is forcing them to watch or read it. Just like how the rest of the world plays football and America doesn’t really care about “soccer”

By your logic, the discrimination against black people was fine in the Jim Crow era because it was normalized at the time. Time period and area do not negate criticism

culture can be wrong btw…and it’s wrong. sorry not sorry. i went out on a date with a guy who was from japan visiting here in the states, im latina btw. he even agrees that the culture over there is disgusting and many younger generations are starting to move out / around to different parts of the globe but there are still many people stuck in older generation ways.

sex will sell i get it…but there’s a difference between a normal school girl outfit vs ones where her tits are literally so unrealistic and her small one inch waist and big ass 💀. like they want all the curves and animate that then go after little girls irl. make it make sense.

It’s definitely not maybe I live in an extremely white area but none of them know anything about history, geography, or race. When some of them started to get into anime around Covid they would ask me the dumbest questions to where I’m thinking how are you in AP class and nowadays how did they get into X school. I get they don’t need to know anything about other people or geography everyone knows the stereotypes about how bad Americans are at knowing about anything that doesn’t concern America

America couldn’t care less about real football. The only reason they slightly do now is because Messi came to Miami. “Soccer” is still more of an activity or hobby to Americans compared to the rest of the world. You can see how seriously Americans take their college and NFL football, basketball, and baseball

American shows have the same thing. They had some blonde girl with big boobs in a high school show called Euphoria idk the name of the characters but these were real people not drawings that are then animated with the target audience behind young guys who will then get their parents to buy them the manga, anime hard copies, merch, etc who then when they grow up will spend more money on it. I know so many guys who when we were kids only got into One Piece in the 2010s because of the girls

And then they actually ended up liking the anime. Oda is famous for saying he draws for young guys and talks about how guys like boobs. There’s also some anime with no fan service like AoT though that’s Seinen which is more 18+ but just more adult themes like AoT or Berserk.

Japan doesn’t want foreigners they want to keep it Japanese. Even though a lot of the media will worship white beauty standards there’s some businesses that won’t serve foreigners. Idk why Americans outside of the obvious anime reason glamorize Japan and Korea ( I get the KPop stuff but still) so much. If you’re not East Asian, good looking white, or Wasian there’s a good chance they’ll ignore or don’t want you there

Shonen anime is geared towards young boys. Mostly around 8-10 years to high school aged. That’s why beyond the age of consent a lot of the characters are high school aged. I know Japan is beyond happy with how popular anime has become since its does so much for the economy but because in America now a lot of the newer fans are in their early 20s because they thought it was weird or uncool 6+ years ago they’re getting a different experience then if you’ve been watching it forever. Those Shonen

Yeah and I’ve been watching since I was around 12 years old, so for the past 12 years. That shit desensitized me so much to oversexualization of women and girls in media and I only realized it when I took a roughly 2 year break from anime about 6 or 7 years ago. It’s Not A Good Thing to desensitize kids to that

Characters were older than all of who have been watching. I can see how if people in their early 20s are watching see some of the girl characters and say why are they dressed like that or have bodies like that but it’s always been that way mostly because sex sells. In American high schools the girls wear tight and or revealing clothes all the time anyways especially in college so it’s not coming out for nowhere since the mangaka look at western beauty standards a lot of the time

I don’t get how you don’t understand that it’s a bad thing for teenagers to be depicted wearing barely fucking anything in a clearly sexual way with adult proportions all the time. Not only is it creepy as fuck for adults to be producing that, but it sets really unrealistic expectations for kids that age, both boys and girls, regardless of who it’s targeted at. Girls choosing to wear tight fitting clothes is one thing, adults depicting young girls wearing that but hyper sexualized is another

that’s why japan outside of certain things sucks and must be addressed for their xenophobia because god forbid any other country did this it would be the end of the world. many japanese love tourists, unfortunately there are also many who don’t. why do you think most anime fan shit on japan?
