Anime comes in loads of different flavors, so until you start figuring out what you like to watch it’s hard to recommend things. Quick sampler: Sword Art Online, Spice and Wolf, Horimiya, My hero Academia, SpyXFamily, Konosuba, Apothecary Diaries, Trigun, Assassination Classroom, Rascal does not dream, Eminance in shadow, Food wars (don’t watch in public), Beyond the Boundary, Ghibli or Shinkai movies, Madoka Magica (don’t look anything up, watch 3 episodes, it’s about magical girls)
A good manga is Blade of the Immortal. I’ve never read Berserk, but I’ve heard a lot of dark stuff and gore happens in it. The closest I’d relate Blade of the Immortal to is Berserk cause Blade of the Immortal has a ton of gore and blood and mature themes and some nudity. It’s an amazing story. They tried to animate it, but it didn’t work very well. It’s 100 less chapters than Berserk.
I think HxH is just something that everyone needs to experience because it really covers all tastes of anime. You have dynamic villains, an AMAZING power system, light and dark themes, humor and seriousness, adventure. Collecting stuff and investigating. Power and strategy. It’s amazing. It was my fav anime for like 4 years until 91 days beat it
Like 1 said, it really depends on what your tastes in anime are. Mine is heavy romances, slices of life, and heavy seinen. Just be open to watching more niche animes and you’ll start noticing what themes you do vs don’t like in different populations (shounen/seinen/shoujo/josei). I strayed from shounen once I realized I like seinen’s themes much more.
