
Here’s the thing and it’s gonna be a controversial take. Anime isn’t made for you, it’s made for Japanese audiences, we just get to watch it. Ain’t gonna pretend I understand much about Japanese culture anything just because I decided to watch anime. Is it weird to me, yup, but doesn’t mean I have a voice in the discussion as a consumer.
Saying “anime isn’t made for you” doesn’t cancel criticism. If it’s sold worldwide, worldwide audiences get a voice. Culture explains why it exists, not why it’s immune from feedback. Japanese fans criticize excessive fanservice too—wanting less objectification and better storytelling is basic consumer feedback, not cultural ignorance.
