I love the scene in OP LA where sanji tells nami about his mom while she’s recovering from being sick. It exemplifies how this show can improve upon the original content in little ways bc of foresight (1/3)

if Oda had known his backstory for sanji during the drum island arc then that conversation would’ve definitely happened. Of course sanji would be reminded of his mom while nami was sick. 2/3

Also, garp being introduced earlier on and roger’s execution scene showing the crowd including characters who we now know were there that day. These are the types of changes that live actions and remakes should be making. They should be taking advantage of the fact that the source material is already out and be making changes that make sense based off what we know will happen. Copying the original beat for beat is boring and pointless. (3/3)

Or they just shouldn’t because it doesn’t have the same impact even with the changes. Speaking of garp, why is he Irish?

how would YOU know if the impact is the same if you are watching it after already watching the anime or reading the manga? Only people who are experiencing this story for the first time through the live action can truly talk about the impact it has. And does it matter what garp’s accent is? Why do you care about such a small detail that doesn’t even affect the story? Also, it’s scottish not irish. Some people would be very mad to hear you say mistake those two 💀

But it has a different impact because it’s not the other material so you can’t say I can’t speak on it at all. It’s a different medium at this point. The details do matter. You literally pointed out the changes in specific details. So I can also point out things that don’t seem to make sense. Sorry for an honest mistake im not the best with accents but either way it just doesn’t seem like a fit for the character. His demeanor alone in the live action is so different. That alone already makes one

yes details matter, but not when they don’t affect the story. One piece doesn’t have the same geographical locations as the real world, so accents don’t mean as much. Him sounding scottish says nothing about the character bc scotland doesn’t exist. We know he was barely around while luffy grew up so their accents not being the same is fine. But, Ace and Dadan should have similar accents bc he did actually grow up with them.

I didn’t say it affected the story but that detail seemed random. Not my point i only said it cuz you mentioned him. Yeah no kidding it’s not the real world. Most of the changes were just more serious or intense and I don’t think that helped the story. Like nami’s village and sister hating her from the beginning. That was a stupid change. Some of the character designs were also atrocious. Im aware it cant fully translate stuff but I can still say imo i dont like it

LA requires more serious tone bc cartoon-y stuff translates poorly. The 2nd season I think handles the balance of silly humor and serious moments a LOT better. Also, limited run time contributes to most seemingly unnecessary changes. If you don’t like it that’s fine, but just say that instead of saying that the LA shouldn’t make changes or shouldn’t exist bc u think it’s not worth it. U didn’t say that but that’s what it seems you implied. It’s worth it to others who enjoy the show.
