Me telling my sister about Vampire Knight: “I swear it feels intimate, but he just licks her arm”, “It’s ok cause he’s not REALLY her brother, just her ancestor even though she’s fine with dating her brother”, “I hate these scenes cause these two kids just are too close to each other and it gives me weird vibes”, “Yeah, this girl’s brother fought for her and now the brother who lost wants to get with his niece”. hot take that may end up making me sound completely deranged to you: tbh incest in fiction doesn’t really bother me. I mean, oftentimes I’ll wonder why the author made that decision, but it doesn’t make me feel that same “ewwww what the fuck???? who signed off on this shit” type of way like when I see “fan service” of child characters

for me the key difference is: when underage characters are sexualized onscreen, it feels like the creators’ expectation is that the viewer is supposed to join in on leering over the character, whereas depictions of incest onscreen never make me feel like the creators want me to start fantasizing about my own family 💀
