hot take: don’t produce video content on anime & manga if you’re too lazy to look up how to pronounce titles & names especially when Japanese pronunciation is so easy to learn. the vowel sounds are always spoken the same way, no guesswork needed

occasionally putting emphasis on the wrong syllable isn’t a big deal, but you need to have a basic grasp on how to pronounce things based on spelling, OR at the very least consult Japanese sources for examples of how to say a given word / name before you record your video

Idt this is a big deal, esp. if you’re consistently off. If someone with a southern accent for example is doing a video essay then I will 100% be appreciating the south accent pronunciation of names

I’m not talking about accent though—it’s fine to have an American accent whether that’s coastal, northeastern or southern, I’m just talking about like, knowing that a single “i” vowel in Japanese is spoken like a short “ee” sound rather than the “i” in ice. there’s still room for regional accents in there

or like, I just watched a guy pronounce “Gegege” like “Jijiji”. idek how you watch anything in Japanese or with Japanese character names and not start to pick up on those kinds of basics organically, you know?
