Unironically who is coming with me to watch the Hypmic movie bc apparently the entire main arc of the series is brought to a close with this.I completely get what you mean, and I did for a bit have similar feelings. I think on my end a lot of it is bc of how little the series caters to international audiences. I should establish that the series as a whole is pretty unserious, it’s aware of how goofy its concept is. But (aside from one character’s VA) all of the VAs are very respectful of the series’ cultural origins, and japan as a general does have a pretty rich scene for hip hop/rap that’s been around since the 80’s
Now one thing I will say as a fan of the series is that some of the VAs do a fantastic job with the music. One of them in particular allegedly thought he needed to learn to rap to get voice work in games/anime (which honestly checks, anime do pretty much anything entertainment-wise, some are even actively models and screen actors) but his work paid off bc he’s praised very often for his skill. On the other hand I also have to forewarn you that there are also some VAs who just. Definitely aren’t.
And I think in the current state of the franchise, it definitely has departed from more hip-hop centric tracks into music that blends the genre with others to better suit the character backgrounds (bc the characters all have like professional day jobs. I’m not kidding when I say how goofy it is)
