I feel like we aren’t understanding what fanservice means in anime and what counts as fanservice. And the huge difference of having fanservice between male and female characters and what it usually means in the story and how they are treated.

To be specific. Usually and historically when a female character has fanservice, that’s usually as she boils down too. She’s used just for sex appeal and not for the plot more often than not, and especially in Shonen that ends up being almost the entire female cast. Even worse than the characters made for fanservice are clearly children. When a man gets fanservice they still have relevance in their plot, win fights, keep their personality.

But the same time you can’t just label every female character in skimpy clothing or a curvy figure as fanservice. Now you’re just sexualizing women for zero reason, women can wear revealing clothing without being a sex object. Like I love my revealing outfits on both genders I just hate whenever them being sexy = no character. THATS WHY ILL NEVER FORGIVE FAIRYTAIL FOR MY GOAT LUCY 😭 specifically Lucy, all the other women like Erza are fine

Also everyone that brings up JJK for its male fanservice genuinely needs to be joking- that shit is nothing compared to the levels of female fanservice I’ve witnessed and you know it 😭 a better example for recent years is like Panty and Stocking season 2. THATS blatant sexualization of a man or just any dating sim lol.
