I’ll be the devil’s advocate for the studio though since a lot of people don’t realize this for whatever reason. Japan doesn’t have the same values or tv standards as the west. For example, the JJK episode where Maki fought back against the Zenin clan was EXTREMELY poorly received in Japan despite being praised over here, and Naoya is a very popular character there

So here’s the devil’s advocate part for the studio. For One Piece to run for so long and for it to continue to run smoothly, they what washed it because of the dislike for foreigners 💀

People gotta remember that the western market is not who or what these shows were originally made to air on, so the business expectations and implications are drastically different

Or they wasn’t intended to be pale and they can’t draw darker skin. If u don’t practice or even around enough darker ppl it’s gonna be harder to convey that.
