AITA for not realizing I was dating a guy for nine months because he would always split the check and make me drive

Your relationship issues aside it is entirely normal to split expenses and driving with a romantic partner, thats the norm in a lot of places

Splitting the check for 9 full calendar months???? I wouldn’t think I was dating that person either

My gf and I split expenses and work all the time. Like if I fix her car she would buy me dinner or if she wants to save money I’ll drive us places. And I live in the south. You can be reasonable about expenses and still be gentlemanly or womanly.

Not necessarily. I don’t think that’s a valid reason to assume you aren’t dating, which I imagine only happened because you never actually discussed whether you were dating or not. In that case, NTA cause communication is important. If you had discussed it and then assumed you weren’t dating because you were splitting then you are TA

nta bc if they thought it was a relationship without clearly communicating it w words ("i want to be in a relationship") then it should have been obvious through their actions, which it wasn't bc it's traditionally an expectation that the man pays and drives etc. If you want to b in a non traditional relationship that's not bad, but you need to communicate that

Right but clearly that’s not OPs dating standards

I mean to each their own, I know those traditions are big in the south and whatnot. Just not something I’ve ever really done tbh
