Here’s the situation: I did colorguard (like flag spinning) for 6 years in high school. I wasnt the best but I was probably the best on my small team. I wasnt the oldest and the most experienced but I never got a feature part, big solo, or a pretty show-

- even though I begged for one every year. This year they have gorgeous instrumental music and the senior (who has only done it for three years and only knows the basics) got an entire feature part and the show is basically all about her. Is it bad that im like super jealous and kind of mad that they get a good show the year after I graduate even though I begged them for a pretty show for like five years?

My hs band director used a show idea my grade had been pitching since we were freshman and a bunch of specific song requests across all their performances the year after my class graduated 🥲 I genuinely think he meant it as a tribute kind of thing but the actual result is more aligned with your situation where we just kinda felt left out and disrespected, definitely NTA and Im sorry that happened

I was also in guard in high school and I was the only senior in the entire history of our program to not get a senior solo/duo/group feature with the other seniors because the coach didn’t like me. I was heartbroken because I was in a leadership position and the only one to consistently show up to every rehearsal on time and lead them when my coach wasn’t there, and I was one of two people that did it all four years. I later found out the part was written for me but they wrote me out

Yeah my director didnt like doing well known songs bc "its more noticeable when you butcher it" so naturally he took all our requests for well known songs after we left (though, in the least cocky way possible, the group ability and sound decreased BAD when my grade left)

i dont blame you for being jealous but its possible youre overestimating your own skill or underestimating the other person’s skill because ur clouded by jealousy

The worst part was that they gave the part to a junior who missed band camp and wrote me out of the whole freaking movement
