AITA if I booked a spring break trip before the semester and just found out I have a midterm for a day I’m missing. My professor refuses to let me make it up and take a 0. Am I on the wrong or my professor. Shpuld I cancel trip or drop class

The professor is not in the wrong at all?? If you have a midterm that means you scheduled your trip longer than the actual break before looking at any important information. You made a bad decision, deal with the consequence and retake the class or cancel the trip.

the professor is not in the wrong, if they let you know the dates this early then they are set. decide if school (and possibly retaking the class) or a one week vacation is worth more

Im sorry but school gotta come first. If you have a scheduled midterm on a day you're missing that isn't the fault of the professor. Come back early, take the exam, don't fuck up your education over a trip that can happen every year

Come back earlier? Or maybe just drop the class atp. The professor is not wrong because you should have looked at your syllabus before booking the trip

You get a syllabus like the first day of class. You’re the one who wants to leave before break starts. Sorry but yta

Try to take the midterm early a day early! Professors usually would let you do that if you are going to miss instead of trying to take it after you get back from break.

if it’s scheduled for a friday then the prof lowk sucks for that. whether you should drop the class or not depends on how important the class is, or maybe you can try rebooked your plane ticket

Also forgive me if I’m misinterpreting, but you Gotta also think about the fact that you basically just told the professor you were planning on missing classes on purpose to be on a trip, just as long as there wasn’t a test scheduled.

here we go with the downvotes. i don’t agree with booking a trip before break starts, that doesn’t make any sense especially when u don’t know your class schedule. other ppl already said that tho so i didnt feel like i needed to reiterate that. i was just saying that scheduling an exam right before break kinda sucks. the prof isn’t wrong for that tho, class is class

"The prof sucks for that" to "the prof isnt wrong for that" bc you didnt like that people disagree lol the prof doesnt suck for scheduling an exam on a day when OP, the student, has agreed by signing up for the course to be in class anyways

nah i just dont think u understand what i mean. it literally just sucks having a test the day before break, i’m gonna be annoyed at any prof that does that but it’s not deep since you still technically have class. like i’m not gonna think the prof is an ahole, but it’s still kinda annoying since it pushes back the time u can leave for break. does that make sense to you? i’m not abt to go back and forth w some random on yikyak over something dumb like this

Which is perfectly fine to do at the college level if attendance is not required.

You are valid for being annoyed with the professor for scheduling the test one day before break. The professor was valid in scheduling the test one day before break. Neither are the asshole.

The point is if you’re missing classes on purpose then you can’t be upset if one of the days you missed was a MIDTERM. OP missed it for a TRIP. Not because his grandma died.
