Assuming you don’t have a degree, I fear $14/hr is pretty decent in this economy :/ especially if it’s a short drive, good benefits, etc. also my reference point is being 3 years into my career with a degree and law school experience, with a wage of $21/hr. It’s enough to pay rent, save, etc.
Tell them that if you immediately quit it’ll be a bad rep on your resume. If they keep pressing, keep up with your current job until you can save up to move in with a roommate or can afford a dorm. They’re definitely over reacting and pushing way too hard for something that’s nearly impossible. Scoring a job rn is sooo fucking hard, they should be proud that you got one. Them pushing so hard makes me wonder if they’re struggling financially and trying to press you to pay their rent
it's not unreasonable for them to want you to continue looking, and it's not unreasonable for you to devote much less of your time to looking for employment now that you are employed. As for your resume... you don't have to put something on your resume just because you did it, you can be selective and just leave out that you worked somewhere for a short amount of time.
-I did go to school, it was too expensive to keep up -I’m not saying I’m content with $14/hr but if I quit now after just getting hired today, it’s going to look bad on me -I found a cheaper option close to home for a more realistic path (will take saving first), but I need to save up (and I have time since I won’t be starting for at least 5 months)
I’ve applied to over 20 jobs in the past few days, ranging from retail to sales to restaurants to factories, and even then, with my qualifications, like I said, nowhere is paying more than $15/hr unless I do overnights (which brings me up to average $17/hr, but very few places within 30 minutes of me is hiring overnights (I did apply for almost every job that was tho)
This, for my current position I was applying to 50+ a day, 3-5 interviews a day. They were all scheduled and I was ready. They don’t need to know I already had two interviews that morning. And there’s no excuse not to be able to get the best job you can get. I felt like I lived out of my car for a while, driving all over, but it was worth it
