AITA for breaking up with my gf bc she went out, got wasted and supposedly roofied, went home with her ex and he “raped” her. But she doesn’t want to press charges against him or anyone else involved. I honestly don’t believe that he raped her. AITA?

If she was roofied, why would you doubt her claims?

People voting yes, can you explain why?

The problem isn’t that you broke up with her, I think the issue is we are doubting her claims. I’m not saying it did/didnt happen but maybe it did in fact happen and she needs to process it.

I can’t really say bro, maybe she was honest, maybe she’s lying to cover herself cheating. What was the hangout and who was she originally going with. If she was raped that was wrong, but idk it’s kinda weird if she went somewhere knowing her ex would be there? There is a lot of unknown that maybe you know or don’t know

victims are often in denial about their situations & can have conflicting emotions about it. she might be fearing retribution or simply doesn’t want to put herself on display in front of a court. it’s pretty common

I didn't vote, bc the situation's too complicated and ultimately idk any of you and wasn't even there. But gf may be hesitant bc rape kits are invasive and have to be done ASAP else results get iffy, ex might fight claims in court which would be humiliating and painful and expensive for her. I think the YTA voters empathize with her and believe her considering those complications

I don’t believe she was even roofied, she was supposedly hanging out with him at the club before going home w him.

You’re not the Asshole for breaking up with her but you should’ve at least made sure her claims were legitimate instead of jumping the gun What if she was genuinely telling the truth

How can I even do that tho. There’s legit no way to ever know.

She went to a club, wasn’t just like a random hangout. We go to fsu so like idrc if she goes to clubs without me and it’s not unusual.

convictions rarely get put through, and she might believe he simply won’t get charged, so it’s a waste of time at best and an active danger at worst. assuming she’s lying about it & breaking up just after she potentially got raped it disgusting I’m sorry. I’d rather comfort someone who doesn’t need it than leave a victim to deal with the aftermath.

I understand not wanting to date a cheater, but I’m imagining her by herself dealing with that trauma. she very well might’ve needed you to help her through this. I can’t imagine how deeply betrayed & useless I would’ve felt if my partner did this to me after I got raped.
