you're not a bitch & NTA. the whole house had an agreement and they broke the promise anyway, and their reaction to your normal follow up is not okay. document everything plus receipts. also not cool to put into jeopardy everyone's living arrangement because landlord doesnt know whats going on.

You’ve gotta snitch, only way to work it out. Any way of handling gently went out the window when she skipped on rent

You’re not the asshole but I will say you guys fucked up by letting them move in with the thought they can’t contribute to rent from the get go. When living with other people you have to have clear cut boundaries and expectations saying he needs to pay rent then letting him move in before getting that rent fucked you over. Not to mention since you guys all technically made an agreement you can’t just threaten to report them out, I’d make plans to get new roommates or at least ditch those two

NOT the asshole. My boyfriend has 2 roommates, one roommate had their partner(s) live with them for about a month - it was CLEAR they had to all split rent, not 4+ ways… but from the existing roommates rent (the one w the partner(s)). They WERE expected to split water, gas, etc fees tho amongst everyone (4+). Talk with your roommates. It’s unfair to not split costs in that sorta situation.

I mean to be fair why does it really matter to you if you’re not there, I’d just ignore for now and if anything happens pretend you didn’t know about it since you weren’t even there

They can’t, the move in was illegal and the roomie okayed it and even made an agreement for monetary compensation in exchange for them moving in, they’re stuck unless they move or the person leaves because they broke their lease when they let them move in

the three of us are in agreement that they’ve overstepped big time, but unfortunately i’m the only one willing to say anything at all

I agree, there should be a new agreement and they should definitely contribute to utilities

they did make our landlord aware, but only after i sent him each clause in the lease in which it stated we could be evicted. our landlord said it was fine for her to stay so technically not illegal

it matters because i’m not there and still paying full rent while there’s another person living in my house who isn’t paying a dime. there’s a lot of stuff i could do with the money i would’ve saved.

That’s fair, it’s definitely a weird situation and the fact that he’s saying that she can’t really pay rent right now is ridiculous fs

Ah…then make sure they DO NOT move all of their items in because they can easily become a squatter in your apartment, next you gotta tell your roommates to grow up and stand by you at least when you bring this to the other two. I’d also consider explaining the situation to the landlord if you’re in apartments and try and ask to move, they should either move you, deal with the situation accordingly, or a record has started to form of their true behavior and will hopefully lead somewhere esp

If you can get your other roommates to say something to the landlord as well. Maybe tell the roommates you’ll all go to the landlord if rent isn’t paid or progress isn’t made
