you’re definitely not TA, but it sounds like you had a lot more trouble with Ray than just lack of attraction, and it might be more effective to make it clear to her that you think he sucks and have no interest in him being in your life, as a separate conversation from coming out.

I have, I’ve told her in many different conversations over the course of my relationship with him (when things started to get bad) and 9 times out of 10, her responses would start with “I’m not picking sides, BUT…”

yeah, that sucks, it would be much easier if she was more understanding. However I’m saying that, if it happens again, telling her directly “we broke up and aren’t friends and aren’t getting back together again” without a particular reason may be a good idea. You aren’t obligated to defend your reasoning to her, and just saying that it’s not happening is reason enough for her to believe you, even if that leaves out the abusive behavior.
