I hate when people self or peer diagnose autism. You can be quirky and socially awkward without being on the spectrum. A lot of people assume my brother is autistic because of those behaviors but he’s been tested multiple times but only has severe adhd.

Fun fact did you know that adhd and Autism share so many symptoms that sometimes you can be misdiagnosed with one when in fact you have the other, cool right? (Not saying this to be mean or anything just wanna share a fun fact)

lots of people assume any neurodivergent behavior just indicates autism. this usually comes from an uninformed perspective, borderline but unintentionally ableism

It’s always been so odd to me. Especially those whose entire Internet persona is abt being on the spectrum, making videos like “What ppl with autism like and don’t like OR do and don’t do”. Because not all are the same and…you don’t even know for sure. You’re misrepresenting an entire group, whose symptoms and experiences vary greatly

What’s wrong with having autism? Why do you say it like it’s a bad thing?

I don’t think they think it’s a bad thing. It’s not. I think it’s frustrating when someone thinks they know more than the professionals and they insist on diagnosing your child for you

I never said autism was a bad thing. I just don’t like people misdiagnosing when they aren’t professionals. People have bullied my brother for how he acts and as a protective older sister it just makes me mad to see people think they know better.

He was tested multiple times for autism specifically and all came back negative. My brother just has adhd. Nothing wrong if he was diagnosed, but I hate people trying to diagnose him with something he doesn’t have.

That’s fair I have severe adhd and people always ask me if I’m autistic or tell me I’m autistic and even though I’ve never been tested I can say I’m not I exhibit no symptoms other than the ones shared by adhd

I get what you’re saying. I am an older sister with a younger brother with Autism. I was just trying to clarify the tone - a lot of people act like autism is a horrible thing without understanding how amazing the people are. I’ve seen people use it like a slur, in such horrific and derogatory ways. so I was just trying to clarify. So thank you!

From one protective sibling to another, we gotta look out for them, especially when the world is so unkind
