AITA bc I want more validation for finishing my degree? My sister is pregnant with her first child, the first grandchild. The baby is all anyone can talk about and i understand but no one is celebrating me the way they did her when she graduated.

You are not TA… AT ALL. Society has normalized the concept that the only events worth celebrating are marriage or kids (aka smth to do with a man) and it’s just simply not true. Finishing your degree is such a big deal no matter who you are, esp if you are passionate about it! I’m so happy for you!!

You deserve to feel celebrated and accomplished. You’ve worked very hard for your degree and we are all so very proud of you

That’s perfectly understandable. I felt the same way when I got my bachelors… I worked really hard on it. You did too. Graduating is supposed to be a big achievement in college. And when it feels like no one really cares about that achievement it stings. Especially if you ended up graduating with Latin Honors or Honors in general. I hope you know their lack of enthusiasm doesn’t make it any less of an achievement. You did that. Congratulations, you should feel proud of yourself at least!

Not TA.. you did something beneficial for your future and worked hard it should be just as celebrated if not more.

Sounds like it’s time to throw yourself a huge celebration party, post it on social media, and not invite any of the aforementioned people.

You should be proud of yourself! That's a huge accomplishment. Getting a degree takes a lot of work but it having a baby is just a biological event. It doesn't take any work. Your family is probably jealous of your success

NTA!! my brother got married to the girl he’s been dating for like 15 years and everyone feels the need to bring this up in every convo.., I have worked full time and had seizures/ severe chronic illnesses throughout college but I finally finished. I thought my family would be over the moon but that’s not what happened 🥴🥴

Thank you. 🙏 I feel selfish for watching more and I don’t want to make them hide their excitement. I just wish we could split the celebration.
