my bf & i met a lady who was being preyed on. she was alone/abandoned in the city & her emotions/circumstances corroborated her story. i offered to pay for her hotel room and my bf agreed. after we did, he got mad at my offer. i paid him back > still mad

Your boyfriend agreeing and then getting mad is the big problem, not him disagreeing. He should’ve been upfront, pulled you aside, and told you what he thought. And then if you’d still decided to spend your money on it, that’s your choice I know people hate being scammed but the motto I always live by: if they’re lying, that’s a reflection of their morality. If I believe they’re telling the truth and convince myself they’re lying anyway so I won’t have to help, that’s a reflection of mine

Honestly, I see your bf side. To me that seems too risky and unnecessary. Sorry not sorry but I’m not getting scammed by some rehearsed sob story.

Why on earth would he be mad about YOU paying for someone in need?

Absolutely! I would rather give money to a con artist than leave someone actually in danger alone. It’s a risk I’m willing to take

That’s a way of doing it but see, I work too damn hard for everything I have. And I’m not risking any of it for anyone!

If she needs help. I’m dialing 911 and leaving it at that

That’s fair ish. Personally I would get them in contact with more specific resources like a women’s shelter or something because cops are many times unhelpful or unprepared for the situation.
