AITA for comparing a hookup to my assaulter? During an argument, his tone reminded me of my assault. He used the trigger word, which I deleted&he blew up, calling me disrespectful for comparing him to that monster. Is my trauma a valid excuse?

If it was unintentional and the trigger word is something seemingly innocent in nature then yes especially because its a serious thing to be compared to someone who sexually assaults people

I fear its not as someone whos been in similar situations. I could see an argument if it was extremely recent like past six months but overall your trauma is not an excuse to mistreat other people. He shouldve been mindful of your trigger assuming he knew it beforehand but you are also an adult that needs to manage your reactions just like he is.

Honestly I could see that being hurtful but him blowing up and yelling instead of trying to understand is a red flag also

Yea maybe wasn't the most appropriate reaction but we live in a scary time where that accusation can hold a lot of weight for a man so I kinda get it, its like some guy comparing me to his rapist ex gf i'd be pissed

I think saying you are like this person. Obviously very wrong Vs saying something that was said or an action making someone uncomfortable and they point it out is different as well. Its hard to tell without more info
