ya because they inspired the kind of thought that led to those ideas. most people did not have the time or means to create the building blocks of philosophy.

It’s also racism; no one discusses African philosophers who also had very fascinating theories

building blocks that each successive generation BUILDS on, so of course in the modern day it seems obvious because so much of our knowledge is built on those early tenets.

That’s the thing, though, this is a addressed birth number one and the OP, they were also copying ideas of earlier philosophers that we don’t know the names of nor the time of and in some cases we don’t even know the empire of. These ancient philosophers were copying philosophers that they themselves considered an ancient of other places and empires.

i’ve come to the belief that a lot of the most important ones we have in our culture are the ones who were able to dumb down concepts enough for the general public. it’s the kind of stuff people remember and share more thus increasing its importance. of course the sources are usually filtered to be more eurocentric 🫩. gen cannot overemphasize how much people were not thinking about this stuff in their daily life. not even their fault either, life was hard enough without didactic discourse.

it’s kind of amazing how far we’ve come to have lives that allow us to have the free time to learn and discover these topics that used to be restricted to very few people in society. the internet has done a lot for my own understanding being able to cross reference things super easily. unfortunately now that we have that time it’s become full of capitalistic distractions that lobotomize everyone from actually thinking about what they believe etc. hope it gets better, have seen progress at least
