theyre selectively threatening to bomb ships that enter the strait including U.S. ships and Israeli ships. The U.S and israel are huge allies, and israel + U.S has been bombing iran. no, israel and the U.S dont directly purchase oil from iran, israel has spent decades in conflict with iran over unpaid debts from previous oil trades. even so, the U.S is still affected by the halt in oil trade

also just in case i didnt explain this well enough—yes we dont purchase oil from iran but oil is still a globally traded commodity, and blocking the strait + refusing to export oil affects everyone, cus ~20% of the worlds oil comes thru the strait of hormuz. it is a GLOBAL shortage, spiking the prices everywhere. blocking the strait also causes ships to take longer, more expensive routes for trade, some insurers even cancelling their coverage for marine transport due to the high risk🤷🏼‍♀️
