Abortion, gun laws, border laws, tax laws, all very controversial for both sides. If you refuse to listen to each other’s arguments and just point fingers at each other for being bad, it accomplishing nothing but more hate & prejudice. Take gun laws for example. In a perfect world, removing all guns would indeed reduce crime, or at least make it more difficult to commit some of them. The left is correct in that regard.
