99.9% of people are genuinely gay / bi when they come out. But my friend is just gay for the aesthetic and it annoys me so bad

It does become clear to me when people just find an lgbt label so they can say slurs and offensive shit but in a way thats acceptable. Unfortunate thing is they usually choose the bi label bc they dont have to actually do anything different. Just say youre bi and you can be as homophobic as you want lmao

I have a step-cousin who did this. Came out as soon as her baby sister was born (cos she wasn’t the youngest anymore and wanted attention). First she changed her pronouns to they/them and changed her name to Ash, and then when she realised no one really cared, she decided that actually her pronouns were he/him. Begged her mum for a binder just to never wear it. The literal only thing she talked about was being gay and mentally ill.

I knew a girl in college who did this. It was so annoying. She drunk kissed a girl at a frat party like every other girl does and then wallah gay for the aesthetic

She like majored in creative writing, started going by she/they, cut a pixie and fire her hair green, got a bunch of abnormal piercings and scissor tattoos, moved to Chicago, became vegan. Like literally anything that is the stereotypical “LGBT lifestyle” she picked up just to “fit in” not bc it was authentic, including “coming out”

Not that there aren’t real LGBT people who do this. But she always acts in a way that’s obvious she wants attention and wants people to react. She’s very obsessed with “I’m the main character” so she’ll purposely try and make her life harder, such as needing to come out. She’s always staring at people to see their reactions of her and always trying to get into pictures and the newspaper

Straight up just sounds like a gay person 😭 I can’t stand the performative shit though

I mean the stereotypes come from somewhere. The point is she only does anything and everything gay people do, not bc it’s authentic to her but bc she wants to fit the “main character in a coming of age movie” aesthetic

Well that’s the point of my post. She “is” gay now but I think it’s more bc it’s the last thing she needed to fit the aesthetic rather than genuinely being gay

She wanted everyone to be upset and homophobic about it, but when no one did that, she grew her hair back out and went back to her original name and pronouns 💀

something tells me you may be the odd one. it’s the way you describe what she does. in my experience, the person who describes things with words like “always” and isn’t objective enough is the one who creates these imaginary explanations for why someone does what they do
