AITA for wanting to give a smaller amount to the grocery budget? I’m the only girl roommate, live w/ 3 dudes that eat way more than me. We were splitting groceries four ways but I’m not eating a fourth of the food, they think I should contribute equally

agreed just get your own food, splitting groceries only works when it's convenient and equal for everyone

Just get a mini fridge for your food in your room. If you are in a college town there are tons of students who want to get rid of theirs for sure. Then you can keep your cold food there, and your dry goods other places

There’s not really space in the fridge or pantry for me to section off my own food and even if there was the reason we pool is because there was a lot of issues with people accidentally taking stuff that they didn’t buy (two of the guys were getting super angry at each other about it and it almost killed the roommate friendship)

i’m confused how is there not space for your food? and ending a friendship over taken food? just have a conversation with them and say you guys eat a lot more than me so either i’m going to pay less or im going to get my own groceries. shop at a different store so it’s easy to tell what’s yours. if they buy their groceries they should know what they buy. or somehow label your stuff

We live in a small college town. We’ve only got a Walmart. There’s four of us living in a three bedroom apartment. There’s not room for us to each have our own spot in the fridge because there’s two shelves and a drawer. And yes they were fighting over stolen food, I’m aware it’s ridiculous. I don’t have any other options to live so I can’t just solve this by telling them flat out “I’m getting my own food get over yourselves” because that would make things awkward for the next year

What if u split the price for the fridge stuff & u buy then keep ur dry food in ur room, under the bed, closet, etc. Bcs girl I rlly only see two solutions if they don’t want to adjust how much u contribute & u have limited space

would it not make it awkward to tell them you won't pay as much? cause then if they notice you starting to eat more it'll cause an argument and you'll be right back in the same position.

If she starts to eat more than she can contribute more, it’s all very simple tbh

well obviously don’t say it like that? but i don’t know what you’re supposed to do in this situation if you don’t want to buy your own food or tell them you’re paying less.

or don’t separate it, just buy your own and label it
