Depends on what you mean by “engage”. If you are completely shutting people out simple based upon their political beliefs, then YTA. That would be prejudice, no different than being racist/sexist/etc. and it just creates a bigger divide. Now if they’re just being ignorant/disturbing the peace/etc. then NTA.

It is important for the future of this country and our children that we do not shut ourselves into echo chambers. It is counter productive to hate somebody based off of their political beliefs. It is even more counter productive to judge a population off of a portion. You wouldn’t look at all white women as Karen’s, or (1/2)

Disgusting behavior. Exactly the same type that’s lead to oppression all over the world throughout history. If somebody is being ignorant/rude & stuff like that sure. Otherwise, you’re part of the problem too.

It’s not political to shut people out for supporting a rapist.

If you think not wanting to engage with someone due to their beliefs, which are a choice and something they can change, is the same as treating someone different based on their identity, something they cannot change… buddy there’s a reason people don’t want to engage with that BS.

You can make an argument that we should focus on finding common ground or developing class consciousness, seeing other perspectives etc, but when that’s your starting argument, nothing good or productive is going to come from engaging

I think we’re stating the same argument here but in different words. That’s essentially what I’m saying, you should be able to hear the other side’s argument not to disagree, but to listen. It may not change your perspective but it also might!

I would agree but it hasn’t been proven. YTA for assuming without concrete evidence.

Agreed but it hasn’t been proven. YTA for assuming. Innocent until proven guilty. I don’t support Trump for my own personal reasons but regardless he hasn’t been proven to be a rapist or a pedo. If either of those are proven to be true, Trump or anybody else, I condemn them. But even still I don’t take it out on his supporters because they’re not him and they may not be supporting him for those reasons. I will hear them out and I won’t attack them for their beliefs.
