aita for being turned off when my gf has bad breath. this has been a reoccurring thing to where i have time and time again communicated it with her. she brushes her teeth 1-2 times a day. it might be medical but she can’t afford to check. it’s so bad lwk

Does she floss and brush her tongue?? And no you’re NTA it seems you’re being respectful in your approach it’s just something you might not be able to put up with much longer

like i don’t want to keep embarrassing her by bringing it up but i’m hypersensitive and it can be hard to ignore at times. i’m really not sure what to do atp

It definitely sounds like it could be a medical thing. If a person has bad gut health or maybe even tonsil stones that could happen. And you mentioned that she is poor hydration? She could have tonsil stones.

NTA. She should be brushing 2x a day at a minimum. Using TheraBreath mouth wash helps a lot too; you just need to follow the directions. She may also have cavities or tooth decay that can cause the bad breath as well

Does she use a tongue scraper? I’ve found that no matter how much I brush, if my tongue isn’t scraped, my breath STANK

This seems super specific but when I had an eating disorder I had really bad breath no matter how much I flossed/brushed and used mouthwash. Is she eating properly?

I was gonna say the same, getting a tongue brush (or even a spoon) helped my oral hygiene a lot!! Also drinking tons of water too!

yeah i think it could come down to lack of hydration and eating, but i also don’t want to parent her by telling her what to do or to make her feel gross to the point of buying a tongue brush. she has ocd and very much overthinks little things like this. but i quite literally could not get in the mood last time bc of it 🥲

that’s so valid, i relate to your gf with the overthinking. but it’s so important to be honest and communicate in a relationship! as long as you voice your good intentions and are gentle in your delivery, she may appreciate you letting her know. i always am grateful when my bf informs me instead of letting me go off without knowing. but of course, you know her best! wishing yall all the best🩷

mm i’ll look into that! i’m thinking gum could help too, she’s been wanting some anyways to help w stuck food in teeth so it could be a 2 in 1 problem solver

i ask her especially when her breath stinks if she’s eaten as yes, lack of nutrition and hydration can cause the issue as well. she may just be dehydrated, i really can’t tell
