you’re not being too harsh. Part of being family is loving and being there for someone when it’s not convenient for you (like living in a different state, not agreeing with certain life choices). They’ve had the chance to show up in the past via phone calls, attempts at visitation, etc. they don’t get to be involved now that it’s super convenient for them. My mom still loved me when I moved states away from her. She didn’t just say “lmk when you’re back and we’ll reconnect.”
