You are never the asshole for pursuing your own path for higher education. And honestly, going to school 2.5 hours away isn't even that far. While I don't go home as often, me and my parents can all make the 2.5h drive just fine. Also your reason for transferring is completely valid! If tuition is rising but the classes are getting worse, why stay? I would be helping my kid fill out all of the transfer paper work or however it works in a heartbeat if they were in your situation!

Nah. It’s your life dude. You are an adult. If they will no longer cover it, then figure it out like the rest of us. Your options aren’t limited. You can do whatever

And that’s the thing, they think 90 minutes is too far! Plus, they’re trying to argue that I only want to go to that particular school because it’s in the same city as my LDR boyfriend (I stopped liking the school way before him and I ever got together, but being closer would also be a plus)

It’s not that it would make my option limited if I had to cover it, that’d just mean I’d have to take an extra couple of years to save up money instead of just jumping right in
