Permanent “children at play” signs does NOTHING to me. Parents should be outside supervising the kids. Probably TA but I don’t care that’s my hill I’ll die on.

Weird hill to die on. People are assholes and kids play outside and hurt themselves doing the strangest thing. It takes no effort to drive slower like it takes no effort in hitting a kid who decides to run in the street. Teaching a kid pedestrian safety can take awhile, even years. Why? They have no awareness. Running to get their ball that rolled in the street seems fine cause there’s no car coming now, so why rush coming out the street when they saw no car when they went to get it? Kid logic

Kids should be allowed to exist not under constant surveillance of their parents actually

Wait a min, so god forbid, but if you were to hit one of these children you would blame the parent????

Sorry but as a kid I would go outside by myself all the time. My parents both work, they didn’t have the luxury of time to put out a sign or come watch me. Just drive slower. It doesn’t impact you at all. At least the kid is playing outside and not on an iPhone all day

If I see the kids I’ll slow. But putting a permanent sign up for “if” ur kids are outside is weird

the point of the sign is that kids are tiny fuckers and don't have good spatial awareness so they fully might just run out in front of your car, and you might not see them before they do. how fast are you going on residential streets anyways??? i hardly ever go above 30 in thickly settled areas

I don’t speed on side streets in hopes of hitting kids, but if I see a sign someone put on a pole permanently because they can’t be bothered to watch their kids Im judging.

good to hear you aren't speeding, i don't know why you assume a sign like that means people arent watching their kids tho. when i was a kid we would just go play outside. i feel like its wild to think a parent needs to constantly be monitoring their kids while they play in the front yard once they're beyond the age of like 5

i might feel differently if i lived on a super busy street tho, i grew up on a street that wasn't that busy. people who did use it would speed though because it was used as a shortcut to bypass a light, but it was only shorter if you went like 50mph which was way too fast for it

I think kids today are worse with less parenting overall, because I’m in a position where I see kids behaviors and it is 100% this generation of parents. So seeing those signs is a flag to me that everyone wants everyone else to be responsible so they don’t need to be responsible for their kids too.

This is what got me too lol why would you expect parents to be constantly supervising their kids playing outside after school or something? Who does that lol unless they’re very young, kids just play. And it’s not an inconvenience to you to slow down a little & keep your eyes peeled for kids. Super antisocial post lol

Yes, you are responsible for paying attention to the road and not mowing down children lmao. The sign is not them shifting their parenting responsibilities onto you, it’s just a safety precaution

I already do overall. Esp after my mom got hit by a deer (it ran into her car I’m being so serious- we were going 35 in a 35 and it hit the car HARD) so I know the impacts. I’m just saying these signs are stupid and do nothing to my driving. I also have seen these signs be used as a way for parents to put the responsibility on drivers to watch out instead of teaching the kids to be safe, and instead of watching them theirselves. My hill is parent responsibility now plowing down kids

I’m responsible for the road. I’m not responsible for parents lack of accountable, responsibility and teaching their kid. I’m in a position where I’ve seen children change with the new parent generation and it’s BAD.

SO kids that still don’t know the rules an how to keep their self safe should have LESS surveillance in high risk areas? I’m not even dumb enough to say that

Ok I wasn’t gonna continue commenting but you genuinely sound like one of the stupidest most entitled people I’ve ever encountered, part of being “responsible for the road” includes not hitting people with your car. The fact you need that explained to you tells me you maybe don’t need a drivers’ license. Idk how you can even see the road with your head so far up your ass.

. I think it’s fine as a precaution. I’d rather people be aware that kids may be out and to be alert. I don’t have kids but I work at a preschool. Those mfs are all over the damn place. Obvs watch your child but a sign can’t hurt.
