there should be a minimum wage of $30 for people with a college degree

Master’s degree required for $15/hr is insane. If a job requires a degree, the pay should reflect it. But having a degree alone shouldn’t automatically make you paid more for the same job compared to someone without the degree.

Um guys, isn’t the real solution making college accessible to all who want it and raising the minimum wage for everyone?

lol i make $16 an hour while actively using my bachelors degree so this isn’t exactly far from the truth

What did you study, basket weaving? Engineering internships are $27/hr no experience

But imagine if this role is simply a pencil pusher/assistant or similar role. Does that really deserve $30? People still go to college for that.

i meant if a job requires a degree, i feel like if u paid all that money to get an education u should be rewarded and ur doing something not everyone can do

i think (i'm hoping at least) OP phrased this badly and what they meant was "jobs that REQUIRE a college degree should have minimum $30/hr wage" which would make more sense though it still potentially has the same issues. but the same job certainly shouldnt pay more to anyone just cuz of a degree if the job doesnt require that

i think the reason it could be good to force jobs that require a college degree to pay more is because not only would it make getting a degree more advantageous but also it would prevent jobs that don't really need a college degree to be done from requiring one

yes that’s what i meant, if you have a degree and you’re working at mcdonald’s you shouldn’t be making that much

The point on making a degree more advantageous makes no sense, why do we need to artificially inflate the value of a degree (which lower income people have disproportionately less access to). Your first comment on this only applying to jobs that require college degrees is also stupid since jobs are just going to designate virtually all of their roles as not explicitly requiring degrees in order to cut costs while still only hiring people with degrees for those roles anyway.

what's your point? i already said it potentially had the same issues. i was clarifying what the commenter was likely referring to and explaining the potential merits of that position

i also never said we should artificially inflate the worth of degrees, i said that for jobs that require a degree it would make sense to pay higher due to the level of time and money that was put into essentially training for your position. i think that which jobs require degrees should be standardized by some kind of legal process though i'm not really proposing anything in that vein. i also think the minimum wage should be higher than 15/hr even for "unskilled" labor

People who work at McDonald’s should still be paid enough to live a decent life

You’ve to be into tech or entrepreneurship to make it big in this economy lol

And entrepreneurship you’re likely to crash and burn and then tech has had mass layoffs

If we do that in McDonald’s and other places like those require college degrees, are you willing to pay $10 for a burger? That’s still not that good as well as they’re gonna get a lot less business cause they’re gonna increase their prices which will only increase the price in a rate of the issue being nobody’s buying.
