My kids (If I have them) probably won’t have access to a large part of the internet until they’re like 16. I will NOT let a tablet raise my child cause I’m too lazy to do it

I’ll let them but it’ll be limited for sure. I grew up on sports, video games , and spending my time outside! My kids gonna be in that backyard or front yard for sure

No IPad (very limited/supervised technology in late elementary, as schools will introduce more tech & I will need to teach appropriate usage for their safety+mental health) & teaching them regulation skills + self reflection + general ability to slow down as early & often as possible. Having all the options at once makes everything so go go go. We see endless consumption as relaxation & refuse to think long enough to understand ourself on our terms. I hope the work I’m doing now will help my kid

I nannied for 3 wealthy families and a big thing I notice is that they under no circumstances allow their children to have access to technology. The most they will allow is 30 minutes of TV time in a day. It’s interesting to see the contrast with how wealthy parents view electronics and middle/lower class parents, who will buy their kids iPads cause they view it as convenient.

Real dude, same here! iPad kids are the fucking worst, but you only have the parents to blame for that. Usually the same parents that let their kids run wild through the restaurant like it’s some sort of playground?

I mean the iPad did come out when I was (almost) 8, but even then that kinda tech wasn’t really part of my life. Yeah I had a Wii and an Xbox 360 and used the computer a bit, but even then that was regulated when it came to how much time I spent on it vs how much time I spent outside and doing non-screen time stuff.

I mostly played with stuffed animals as a kid with my sisters. It was awesome

I liked stuffed animals well enough, but I got real into Lego and some of my older cousins gave me a bunch of of their old sets and mixed boxes of parts which was awesome! But also, as a someone who grew up waaaayyy out tin the country side, I did a lot of outdoor stuff on the family ranch land (riding horses, exploring on the woods, etc) and loved doing stuff like woodworking or building projects with my dad. Oh, and also books/audiobooks were a huge part of my childhood.

Both galaxy ones were awesome! I also got real good at Sam’s Bros. Brawl and Melee since I thankfully had one of the backwards compatible models and got some GameCube stuff from my cousins (Hit N Run, Kirby Air Ride, 007 Nightfire, etc) Especially stuff to play with friends. I got real darn good with the Goldneeye Wii remake and the motion controls. Great times.

It’s unfortunately usually due to lack of accessible childcare early in life, and very few know how to ween their kids off of the hyper addictive tech when kids are older. The kids only know to regulate on a screen & dread time “alone” with their minds. Making childcare easier to access very early for middle/lower class families would help imo, it sucks so bad

Oh yes I agree with this. Parents are burnt out and don’t have the recourses to afford extra help to engage with their kids, it’s very sad.
