“Late stage capitalism” is just capitalism working as intended. So long as corporations are allowed to consolidate markets and form into monopolies (the natural end state of capitalism), then it’s always going to be this shit. Marx predicted that the middle class would shrink until there was only the capital owning class and the working class. We’ve seen this play out over decades of deregulation and tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy.
