As long as you’re honest about it and can handle the potential rejection. I know I appreciate someone intentional who wants to take it slow. BUT I can imagine if someone found out you befriended them until false pretenses and ditched them if it didn’t work they’d feel used.

I feel like this is the normal and healthy way to approach women. Just don’t push the expectation that you are going to end up more than friends. Just get to know each other and see what happens. Best case scenario, you find your romantic life partner or an awesome friend. In other words, only wins.

As a woman, I only feel like it’s off-putting if that’s your main reason for wanting to get to know me. If you’re honest and upfront about your reason, then yeah I’d be fine with it, but finding out later would definitely make me a bit uncomfortable.
