Zillow rentals is a good app to use. It lets you know what is available and what the prices are like in the areas you’re exploring so you know what to expect and what budget to expect.

Make sure you take a tour BEFORE paying an application fee. Also ask what their qualifications are to be approved. Be aware that plenty of complexes have a scam where they keep a listing open forever or for longer than necessary in order to rack up those application fees. Check the surrounding area for grocery stores, gas stations, fun places etc. You don’t want to drive 20 minutes to get to a store yk? Also ask about pet policy and if the surrounding apts are pet owners. They can check.

You don’t want barking dogs at night or during the day! Ask about utilities too! Water & trash removal/pickup is almost always included but it’s a plus of electric is too! And ask about WiFi and or WiFi cable installation. Is the apartment already set up & you just need a modem, or do you have to pay the $100 cable installation fee to the WiFi company? Also check the structure of the apt THOROUGHLY. Any cracks, gaps, holes, loose fixtures, door knob’s, etc. make a note & take pictures so they

Can’t hold your deposit!!! Also ask about changing the locks. They should’ve already changed them, so if they say that they have or that they will before you move in then that’s a good sign. If they look surprised or say no then it’s a yellow flag. You don’t want the previous tenant or their crazy exes to have access to your stuff. Then look up news for any recent burglaries in the area. Even if it’s a nice area, sometimes those areas get targeted BECAUSE they’re nice. Just be aware!
