i wouldn't call them "overly religious". that, my friend, is called being lukewarm and the Bible is pretty explicit what will happen to them if they do not repent and change their ways — then again, they probably aren't aware of that verse because they don't actually read the Word. i'd also you're noticing their sin because they aren't supposed to be acting that way based on what they advertise. i see non-believers actively living in all types of sin daily. everyone sins and falls short.

I think it’s basically that they think the fact of being a “Christian” makes them automatically morally superior, and whatever crazy thoughts they have must be “Christian” too by definition because that’s how they see themselves.
