Why is it so addicting to be sad and have a victim complex? I should snap out of this and do something like clean my room

literally me, been like that for years. my therapist said it’s bc that was my way of coping in a toxic environment and since i had been doing it for years, it turned into a “shield” for me. basically like 1 said, you’ve been doing it for so long that it’s become something you’re used to and are comfortable with.

I used to think this way for years, I don’t exactly know what snapped me out of it. It might have been denying my trauma fully and telling myself it wasn’t really that bad and to get over myself, and then later being in a better place to unpack it without relapsing back into the complex? Or maybe it was making friends with people with trauma much worse than mine and being embarrassed that I was kinda “milking” mine?
