My friend is telling me that he can barely afford to eat. I don’t know how to help him because he’s the kind of person who relies on everyone else to solve his problems for him, so giving him money would only make things worse. What do I do?

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime

Ahhh I totally understand. I have a friend who doesn’t have a handle finances well. If they had $20 they would spend it on vapes and drinks then complain they don’t have any gas or food money. A “friend” wouldn’t put you in that situation. They are not making good choices and asking you to make up the difference on their choice- something a true friend wouldn’t do. As soon as you give someone money the friend dynamic changes. I’m sorry

But you can definitely help. I showed my friend / helped them with getting food stamps and other resources. But if you start giving them money, even if you have the most pure intentions it doesn’t end well.
