Anyone have skin picking associated with OCD? Just got diagnosed with OCD at 20 and I just found out skin picking is a symptom. How did you manage?

I struggled with it for years and my acne kept getting worse. When I finally got rid of my acne and it reduced, it was motivation enough for me to consciously stop picking. Therapy helped too. Telling people around you (close ones) that you have a problem so they can remind you each time your hand goes to pick, helps too

yes and i try very hard to keep my skin healthy. but when it’s paired with depression and adhd, good god it’s hard to make myself do self care things. also personally ive found i have a few triggers like if im upset or bored i tend to pick more. also also the closer i look at myself the more i find to pick. so anyway i try not to look at myself too much and i always keep a fidgety thing with me, just something to keep my hands busy.

Yes! I try to lean heavily into skin care and moisturizing my entire body. If my skin is healthy I find less things to pick

Thank you! I have never heard of just not looking at yourself as much. But that’s definitely my issue with adhd, anxiety, and OCD. I’m excited to try that.

I was in and out of intense therapy as a child for trauma and anxiety. So I’ve (fortunately)always had documents. I got diagnosed officially in the psychiatric hospital. I was there for other reasons, but they evaluated me there.

It’s as simple as just messaging a primary care for a behavioral referral as a first step. It can take months of waiting time, but it’s so worth it and please don’t let that discourage you from seeking help.

I’ve replaced it with obsessively flossing my teeth, same satisfaction!

Please be careful bestie. I have a horrible receding gumline from this. Those bitches are painful and I’m not scared of surgeries but this corrective one is BAD.
