A lot of people are commenting to get therapy through some means or another. I understand that might not be ideal as both a man who’s been assaulted and someone with a strict family this is what I did UNTIL I could get therapy. DEFINE your attack. The more you can define and understand what had happened to you, that the situation was not your fault and done unto you, the easier it is to separate the non-consensual trauma from a consensual experience. It takes time, and an understanding partner.
professionals need to be trained and certified to do EMDR (a kind of trauma therapy) but if you wanna DIY it you can try going back to that moment in your mind (while in a safe space) and feel the emotions and thoughts and physical sensations that came up without judgment and do the whole thing while doing some sort of bilateral stimulation. for example, youtube has videos (u can just search up EMDR visual bilateral stimulation and i bet some will come up)… to be continued. comment too long
this is what helped me and it doesn’t have to be considered “girly” either journaling. write down your feelings, all of them. all of those only horrible repetitive thoughts write every single one down. and then burn those fucking papers and watch them burn after a while - things start feeling easier
try to find offers in school or even online for therapy!! that way you’re family won’t know about it and you can still try to process through some of the things you’ve been through. SA is an extremely traumatic experience for anybody and without the ability to process through it, it can become dangerous (some resort to unhealthy coping mechanisms from being in pain and feeling overwhelmed). i wish you the best!! and remember that it wasn’t your fault, you didn’t deserve for that to happen to you
some of the videos will be a ball rolling back and forth (often a black ball on white screen) and you’ll follow it with your eyes left to right. you can also look some up with headphones that play a sound that switches from ear to ear. or even cross your arms over your chest and take turns patting your chest/shoulders side to side. any kind of left then right then left then right & so on stimulation will help activate the left side of your brain and help get you out of the paralyzing emotions
…from the right side of the brain and into the logical left side. it’s meant to help you reframe the traumatic experience and ease PTSD symptoms, etc. maybe it’s a terrible idea to DIY EMDR tho so look into that beforehand cuz i’m just suggesting what ive done with my trauma therapy. i’m so sorry you’re going through this. you’re not alone and things will get better. wishing you the best.
most therapy offices take insurance if u have it.. not all of them take every insurance but if u have health insurance atleast one office near u would have to take it. i’ve never had to pay for therapy as long as i had insurance and have been able to choose the office i go to because they all take it.
