Some fire stations are multi story with equipment on the bottom floor and living space above it, and yes when they get an urgent call the pole gets them downstairs much faster than taking the stairs, and it’s really not that hard to slide down a pole. Most fire stations at least where I live (not downtown in a city) are one story tho
