We just got new internet and my mom refuses to change the wifi password from the one she uses for EVERYTHING. Like ma, we have to give that password to guests/friends/family/etc. Let’s not make the password we give out be the same as your bank account, medical record app, any service your card is attached to (Amazon, Walmart, fast food, etc etc etc)

If it’s on an electronic, assume it lasts forever (unless it’s a classic disk drive and you shatter the disk beyond repair)

it’s a text message, you can delete them

…deleting it does not mean the text message doesn’t exist anymore. Anyone with mid level tech knowledge can easily recover the message. Message content is also saved my your phone carrier and can be seen from the bill. If you sent it your keyboard strokes are saved and accessible, deleting it does nothing. It’s like a lock, they’re just there to keep honest people out.

Email you phishing link, post a phishing link on any social media, get your ip from yikyak’s unprotected server data, get remote access to your device and storage data bc it’s on chip based drive, and boom all messages sent and received. Deleting it removes it from the text screen. It does not remove the data from your phone.

You don’t have to believe me but I’ve already been the victim of cyber stalking bc someone got my phone number, real name, address, and access to my social media from YikYak bc their servers have NO protection. As in had to contact the authorities over this person harassing and threatening my family and coworkers. It’s not hard. I’m just a good person and don’t commit cyber crime. But people can. Deleting does not mean erasing from existence

I believe you and I agree it doesn’t but just because it’s never fully deleted doesn’t mean it’s super easy and accessible

Right, but why wouldn’t you insure you’re being as safe as humanely possible with information that’s that important? Same reason you shouldn’t use third party keyboard apps, for example.
