Ppl always talks about "screenagers" and how kids are always on their phones/don't pay attention to their parents. But what about the parents? I'm abt to go to college and I try to spend time with my parents but my dad's always on his phone.

My mom sent me a Facebook reel about “getting emotional bc my daughter must be so sad when she hangs out with her friends and realizes they’re not as lit as her mom” I straight up told her I beg her to spend time with me and she never does, she’s invited to come out with my friends every time (we are quite the diverse group including age wise) and she refuses. So no, she’s actually the lamest person I know

My parents are emotionally and mentally abusive so I use my phone to distract myself from their insults

Yeah this definitely isn’t talked about enough. The brain rot has effected adults too, but they’re able to avoid the scrutiny that kids/teens have to go through

Kids are just modeling the same behavior as their parents and if we don’t have any third spaces for kids or we tear down local skateparks and stuff to put in another goddamn Walmart or overpriced housing that is used for at least half the year

We had to make a rule for my mom that she had to put her phone in another room and can’t have it at the dinner table because she seems incapable of staying off it and ignoring notifications

on a daily basis, my dad talks to grok more than he talks to my mom and me combined. and then he tells me i spend too much time talking to people online

Ugh my mom is so guilty of this. She’ll be so engrossed in her phone she has no idea I’m talking. Also the full volume reel watching when we’re trying to watch a movie or show is so annoying. Like I actually had to step in and start replying for her when my sister was trying to talk to her. It’s just hurtful.

I literally bought cassettes of music my dad listens to as a gift, but he refuses to ask what I listen to :(

I went to dinner with my mom the other day and was so sad that she watched Facebook reels until the food came out and she needed her hands for something else.

THAT. it irritates the shit out of me. i LOVE my dad, he's been my #1 supporter since the day i was born. but as he gets older (he's 42 this month) hes just ... phone. phone phone phone. And like I get that i was kinda like that as a young teen but there are other heavily influencing factors to that. and he's always sending me some tiktok link.

My mom is 55. I’ve just lost hope in recovering her lol. I even moved back in with her with my partner bc living alone since my dad works out of town during the week and my birth et went to college she was probably going to be arrested for threatening politicians on Facebook.

Like it’s one thing if I come talk to you while you’re on your phone. It’s completely different if we’re talking and you then go on your phone. I would get yelled at for that exact same thing.

Ugh the worst. I know I’m on my phone a lot, but that’s when I’m by myself. Not spending time with people
