Why don’t people protest things that actual matter?

It’s hard to protest things that have been “normalized” in today’s society. It’s such a grind that everyone is too exhausted for meaningful change and just typically focuses on their family and friends to support eachother through this. What would you protest if you could gather the right support?

I share your feelings. My only protest is I don’t ever use it. Ever. Even though I’m sure it would help my work. I mostly try to learn the damages of it to educate people who are on the fence. People way into it are sadly not going to change their mind in my experience

Our gov could stop rolling out the red carpet though. No other business gets as much federal support. They literally passed a law saying we couldn’t create laws blocking AI progress.

Yeah it’s pretty bleak, but that bubble will burst if enough people silently resist or don’t participate (I hope) I’m in the trades so it doesn’t outright affect me. But unlike most people passing laws I tend to think about how it hurts people outside my bubble and I hate it

It absolutely affects you. These data centers use more electricity than some cities, and the folks being laid off pay to outsource home maintenance to the trades.

Oh for sure sorry I get that part. But it doesn’t necessarily threaten the job outright. It’s crazy being in this “amazing economy” made of toothpicks and boogers. There are like 3 massive centers going up around me. It outright ruined a neighborhood, 150 or so homes are abandoned now. It’s unnatural

See. Thats 150 families who won’t pay taxes in that community, which won’t fund the schools, police, or fire. Which will increase insurance and lower property value for others .. rinse and repeat until every city look like Detroit.

I’m curious where the elite dick heads think their tax slaves are gonna go? I’m not as doom and gloom about it as you are but I totally believe what you say is not only possible, but currently happening. It’ll take something to turn the tides I just don’t know what

Heard the best depiction on a podcast recently: They don’t think of as people / peers, they think of us as cattle. In that same way, we don’t think of the species of cow when we bite into a burger, we just enjoy until we’re full.

Oof that hurts. Real as hell though thanks for sharing. I hope a revolution happens but as your initial post suggests it’s so hard with all the distractions. I often try to imagine myself in another time to see through the forest. Like they had issues, worries, dread, etc that “worked out”. But honestly it did for some and absolutely did not for MANY more. Makes it all the harder to focus on personally.
