christianity is kinda just the cult that won out in Western civilization it makes sense: if you’re the one saying “this is the only way to eternal happiness” and most of the others aren’t saying that, it makes sense that you’d have an advantage right?

Give us a tenth of your income. If your friends and family don’t believe in the Holy Spirit and “donate” money, they will be subjected to eternal hellfire. Sounds like the biggest scam in history to me.

All religions make reference to figures in Christianity. All other religions, even polytheistic ones, have the Christian God as a deity. Only one has the agreed ‘right’ figures (granted debated context) and the sole God. In other words, all religions validate Christianity. Christianity validates none of them.

I think it all worked together. But I think the “this is the only way or you’ll be tortured forever“ probably helped

For a while they didn't, and then for a while it was different types of Christians killing each other. I don't think it's the guns so much as the message. "Don't worry about all this, no matter how shitty it is you'll be happy at the end" is just too potent a message.

I talked with a friend in Ireland. She said the nation was divided by who believed if Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit or a man. The same religion, one minor difference.

Tithing was never income, it was a a portion of your first harvest. Even still, it wasn’t for your church but your community. It was a communal potluck feast of sorts. And it was only if you had excess or weren’t in need. A lot of the bible has been altered by other religions…

Zoroastrianism was the OG dominant religion, by far. What you think of as Christianity today is very modern and very watered down.

Tithing isn’t required for salvation at all, and the 10th thing is just modern tradition, not a requirement. The Bible actually says “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”-2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭7‬ ‭ESV

I think you might mean whether Mary remained a virgin or not, because Catholics and Protestants agree she was a virgin when Jesus was born, but not what happened after. But that’s one small part of a much bigger belief. Catholics believe Mary’s virginity must have never been defiled because she is perfect and holy, whereas Protestants believe she was a normal human being and that worshipping her is idolatry and therefore sin.

if this were true, it would give a substantial boost to the “back in the day that was maybe the best unprovable bullshit you could concoct” premise
