Because we don’t have conclusive evidence of Tylenol causing autism still. But we do have conclusive evidence of fever being dangerous during pregnancy, with risks beyond autism. So I’d rather treat the fever and avoid what I KNOW to be damaging, than do nothing at all being of the “risk of a chance”.
Marginal risk my friend. If the chance a child is harmed by a fever is X + Y and the risk the child is harmed by Tylenol is X. Take the Tylenol. It’s the same with vaccines and just about every other drug. Should you pop a bunch of Tylenol while pregnant just to spite Trump? Hell no, that stuff is actually a powerful pharmaceutical. Should you pop a bunch of Tylenol without needing to just in general? Hell no! That stuff is a powerful pharmaceutical.
The issue with medication we have in the world right now is what I call “pharmaceutical sorcery.” Which is where people just assume that these things are magic spells that do magic things. Vaccines are a great example, people don’t understand them so they fall into the “they cause autism!” Scam. Because they don’t understand how they work.
Vaccines are powerful medications with defined positive benefits and defined negative risks. You need to compare the total risk (potential side effects of the shot and potential seriousness of the disease) without the shot X to the risk with the shot Y. If Y is less than X then get the shot, if not don’t.
