Cults use initiation rituals as a basis for building trust. Also kinda similar to ppl that go crazy if they found out someone hasn’t seen Star Wars before. I think it could also be something deeper in human nature around tribalism and in-groups/out-groups or wanting to project individual experiences as absolute truths on to other people

as long as you don't make it some superiority thing being the non drinker, then it's really not an issue, whenever i get offered a drink i just turn it down and say im not into that, havent had any issues

I don’t drink. When I was younger, I informed a family member that I didn’t want to drink, and they appeared offended. It was as if they took it personally. They seemed to feel bad because I didn’t drink. Perhaps people aren’t aware of how to handle someone who doesn’t drink because they might perceive it as a reflection of their own character.

I don’t think anyone cares but in the culture we have today it is out of the ordinary. It’s like when people act shocked you don’t eat fast food. You’re technically the one doing good for your body but you’re still seen as the outlier
